Japanese Wash Cloth by Raquel

The Best thing since sliced bread!!!! I cant live without mine… if you don’t have one… get one.. it’s a must!! IT doesn’t matter if you have oily acne prone skin, dry skin or normal skin… you need one of these bad boys in your shower…. (ok, ok, most of us do need bad boys in our shower….but back to the Japanese Wash Cloth)

Not only do these exfoliate like no other…. They also help with blood circulation and cellulite…. What?? What did I say??? Oh yeah… I went there.. It's true.

We all know what cellulite is… if you are one of the chosen few who have not be inflicted with it, I hate you (just kidding) I once went to a local plastic surgeon and asked him if he could get rid of the cottage cheese that is clinging to my thighs for dear life….. He looked at me like I was crazy and without any hesitation replied “No.“

No??? what do you mean no?? I asked. Modern science can send a man to the moon, and clone a sheep….but can't get rid of cellulite?? Now this here is some bulls#@t!!! Talk about a conspiracy…… I am telling you those cellulite cream commercials that you see…. Those must have some serious political backing… because you can't tell me with all of this modern technology and science… they can't get rid of some nasty bumpy fat on my thighs???? Shooooooot, somebody better quit playn’!

Us less fortunate creatures……… hate it worse then are meddling mother in-law!! Since we all know what it is, I am not going to get into the scientific description and the break down of it, and why we have it… it is just a cross that most of us have to bear.. Unfortunately. The Japanese wash cloth can stimulate the blood flow to your outer dermis (thick skin with cellulite) getting the blood flowing to these areas helps reduce and break down cellulite.

A Japanese wash cloth is about 12 inches wide and 3 feet long. They are kinda like a sheer nylon meshy looking material. You can find them at beauty stores or at Image ProvoCateur.

The ones that we carry are imported from Asia, and I really like the rougher consistency of them…. Cause I feel like you get more exfoliation, more bang for your buck, or rub or wash… whatever you want to call it….more cellulite stimuli out of it =) They can come in all different colors, pink or blue. So choose which ever one you like best.

SUNBLOCK…….by Raquel

You must use a good sun screen no matter what your skin type or shade. My Latino and African Sisters… listen up!! all too often I found that darker skinned women don’t wear sunscreen… they think that they are less likely to burn… so they don’t need it. Even though darker skin doesn’t “Burn” like very light euro descent skin, You will still sustain damage from the sun. Unprotected exposure to the Sun causes hyper pigmentation (dark spots and patches) that you will later be battling with, not to mention premature aging (fine lines and wrinkles) So block it baby!!!

I personally have very very oily skin….. most sun blocks break me out something crazy! I use and like an oil free sun block that does not contain Titanium Dioxide!! (you know when you look at a picture of yourself…. And you are like, why does my face look so ghostish and ashy?? That is the Titanium Dioxide that most cheaper cosmetics have in them… and it causes a refection from the flash of the camera) So avoid this ingredient by all means!!! Cause girl… as a Vixenized Diva, you never know when people are gonna be poppin' off photos of you cause you look so fine!! Be prepared at all times!

I am currently using a sun block by Peter Thomas Roth, Ultra-Lite, Oil-Free Sun block with SPF 30. I like this a lot, it goes on sheer and dries pretty well. I do not find that this makes me more oily as the day goes on like most sun blocks do. Because I have very oily skin, I forgo the moisturizer and just use the sun block. Ahhh so some relief to my oily skinned sisters, I know how many times you have cursed your mascara under your eyes =) However if you have drier skin, you will still want to use a moisturizer after you apply the sun block, because the sun block will not give you enough moisture through out the day.

Top 10 Must Do's for Sultry Summer Beauty!

1. Use a sunscreen on your face.

2. Stay-proof your eye makeup. For long lasting shadow, don't use eye cream. Use a eye primer this helps keep the shadows from creasing. The primer helps the shadow to cling to so it lasts longer.

3. Drink 64 ounces of water daily.

4. Always clean your face daily. Cleanse tone and moisturize.

5. Clean your makeup brushes weekly. They carry bacteria as well as muddying up your finished look.

6. Stop shine add glow. Use blotting papers to get rid of that unsightly "I'm hot". If you need to perk up your makeup too, blot first, and then follow up with a dusting of pressed powder. This takes away that shine but leaves the summer glow.

7. Switch out thick lipsticks. Try using different color of gloss or tinted lip balm for that natural lip.

8. Use waterproof mascara.

9. Go sheer on the face. Switch to sheer versions of your go-to lip and eye hues.

10. Lighten up on your face makeup. Swap foundations for tinted moisturizer. These sheer formulas look and feel airier on skin and are less likely to turn cakey on steamy days.

Hydration = Good Skin

by Arrvada

One of the main contributors to healthy winter skin is proper hydration. Not just in what goes onto the skin, but also what goes inside.

In some ways it seems it is easier to stay hydrated during the sweltering heat of summer than it is when things cool down to brrrr. In the summer nothing is better than a nice cold glass of water. but in the winter, it's just the opposite. We tend to order drinks that will warm us up from the inside, like hot tea, spiced cider, coffee and cocoa. It's true all of these feel great when the wind is rushing about at a furious pace and sending those leaves skittering down the street. But they tend to leave our bodies sorely lacking in hydration. Yep, big problem.

So what are we supposed to do? You ask.

Well, it's a scientific fact that the body absorbs water better when it is room temperature than when it is ice cold. However none of us are usually keen on the taste of lukewarm water. So that leaves us with a few options:

1. Carry a reusable water container since there is no need to clutter the landfills just to stay hydrated. Besides, this will save you money in the long run, since a bottle of water can run from $1 to $5.

2. Add a few drops of lemon juice to the water. This will make it much more palatable, even when it isn't ice cold and will also give you a nice little boost of Vitamin C. A vitamin we could really use more of during the cold and flu season.

3. Avoid Sodas and other drinks that are high in sugar. These only serve to dehydrate you more and add more junk and chemicals to your body that none of us really need.

4. Avoid Caffein. I know, I know. You are screaming, BLASPHEMY! at this point, but just bear with me a moment longer. Ok, caffeine tends to curb your appetite, which is good, but it also curbs your thirst impulses. So if we don't feel thirsty, why would we want to force ourselves to drink? So, if at all possible, avoid the caffeine.

So raise a glass of crystal clear water and make a toast to beautiful skin, YOUR beautiful skin.

Stylist of the Month - Jessica Kerivan

I found my love for make up at an early age. I enrolled at Federicos Beauty Institute and became the top student in my class, earning specialty training in micro dermabrasion, spray tanning, and body treatments.

After I graduated from Federicos and received my license from state board, I decided I wanted to provide my clients with the highest level of service and continued my education of the skin and body by enrolling at Healing Arts massage therapy school, where I earned my massage license and trained in various forms of body work including Swedish, Deep Tissue, Pregnancy, Shiatsu, and Hot Stone therapy.

Makeup and skin care are my passions in life. There is something very satisfying in helping someone who has battled with problem skin, and turn it into clear, healthy skin, or transforming a bride into her most gorgeous self on her wedding day. Because I love what I do, my job never feels like work. I get to wake up and go play!

Jessica's Winter Skin Tips

During the Winter my Main Three Points of Proper Skin Care are:

1. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize! Winter can really dry out your skin. My personal favorite moisturizer right now is Dermaquest's Advanced B-5 Serum for Dry skin or Dermaquest's Rejuvaderm for Oily to Problematic skin.

2. Make sure to exfoliate at least twice a week, so that your moisturizer can penetrate into your skin. My favorite exfoliator by far is the Japanese Wash Cloth.

And last, but not least:

3. Remeber to wear your sunscreen. You can still get sun damage even when the sky is gray. Cloud cover can even intensify the affects of the sun if you are outside too long. So be sure to apply a light SPF each day.

Weddings....Dreams made Real

Weddings are hopeful. They are the day that we have gambled all our hopes and dreams on since childhood. As little girls we played dress up, envisioning the day we would be walking down the aisle to pledge our life to the man we love. We dreamt of weddings bells in the midst of our first crush, watched Cinderella one too many times and dreamed of one day finding our very own prince charming. Weddings are the day before Happily Ever After, and it is the day that leads us there. Weddings aren’t just about the confetti, about the I do’s, the cake, the venue, they are about the combination, the compilation of everything all together to make that one perfect moment for that one perfect day. We envision birds singing and the sun shining down on us with gentle heat while we are resplendent in a gown of snow white, a princess from a story book for that one moment. We envision joy, we envision our hearts bursting with love when we are finally able to say I do. All that is possible, the memories will be cherished, but there are so many plans to be made. Your venue, your gown, your photographer, your caterer…. So many things, its seems they rush upon you. And what of yourself, the bride? You are the center piece, this is your day. This day should be your joy, the day you’ve always wanted and you should look and feel the way you have always dreamed.
The trappings are all around you, you’ve thought of it all, now it’s your turn. You’ve found the gown that you’ve always wanted, a vision in white, you’ve found the veil, you’ve even found the shoes. You have a crowd of your loved ones around you, it is the day of your wedding. You’ve only a few hours left before you will make that inevitable walk down the aisle with your family pressed in on all sides. Have you remembered everything? We will. Image Provocateur will be there with you. We will add a shimmer, a blush to your lips and cheeks, contour and depth to your eyes, so that you will shine out from among the rest of the bridal party. Sun-kissed Summer Look?

by Arrvada

Summer is all about creating that healthy, flirty, feminine appearance. It’s the time to bring out the floral dresses, strapped sandals and expose your skin to the sun. Sun kissed skin is the ideal, but with golden tans comes the potential for damage. Over exposure, dehydration, improper care, all of these things can create skin that is dull, skin that appears aged. Skin conditions change with each season; therefore it is very important to update your skin care regime as well as the type of makeup you wear.

Choosing the right skin care is the first step to having radiant skin. To avoid dehydration from sun exposure and heat, follow these essential steps:

1. Cleanse with a hydrating cleanser, something that will work well with your skins own pH. I recommned Dermaquest Daily Enzyme Cleanser (For Dry to Normal Skin types) or DermaQuest Antibacterial Enzyme Cleanser (for Oily to Acneic Skin).

2. Use a manual exfoliant to stimulate your blood flow and purge your pores. This will reduce dullness in your skin, reintroduce much needed moisture and reduce blemishes. My recommendation? The Japanese Wash Cloth of course!

3. After this cleansing wait a few minutes and moisturize your skin, making sure to moisturize your whole face, especially under your eyes, continuing down your neck. For Dry/Normal Skin Types there is nothing better than DermaQuest's Advanced B-5 Serum. If your skin is oily I would strongly recommend the Dermaquest Rejuvaderm.

4. A daily application of a sunscreen should become routine before ever leaving the house. DermaQuest's Solar Moisturizer provides perfect coverage.

5. And that final touch for luminous, healthy skin begins on the inside. Drink water, it’s a simple step, but one of the most essential to maintaining a healthy body and healthy skin.

Proper choices for your skin care products can seem like a challenge, but some basic knowledge is all you need. Choose a cleanser that will fit with your own chemical make up, check ingredients avoiding products with alcohol in them as this will only dry your skin out further. The same applies for your moisturizer. A good moisturizer is one of the most valuable investments you can make. While there seem to be hundreds to choose from the choice isn’t that difficult. Choose something that will be light on your skin with maximum hydration. A light moisturizer for day will wear well under your makeup, making the application of your foundation more even as well. Also, if it is light and penetrates your skin it won’t cause your make up to run when the heat outside goes up. A good choice for better coverage and longer stay with hydration would be to get a tinted moisturizer, but not all tinted moisturizers will do. Again read your ingredients and avoid products with excessive amounts of Titanium Dioxide in them, as this cam clog your pores and lead to breakout. Most sunscreens and foundations to contain this ingredient, so be careful to choose one with a more minimal amount.

For your evening routine, choose a heavier moisturizer, something that will restore your skin from a long day beneath the sun, facing the heat and the daily wears of those nasty free-radicals. It should be thicker, deeper penetrating so that while you sleep it will refresh, rejuvenate and revive your skin, giving you that fresh and rested skin we all crave.

With the changing season comes a need for a change in your makeup as well as your skin care.

1. Colors change each season so be sure to pick a foundation that will match your new golden tones. A foundation that wears well in the heat, that is oil free and wears even when you sweat. VIP-CAT's Oil Free Foundation is my prime choice.

2. Followed by a translucent powder to set your makeup, even out the skin tone and keep your makeup from running. VIP-CAT's Powder foundation is an excellent choice.

3. And for sure fire makeup staying power covering with a fixing spray will keep you looking like a goddess all day.

4. Water proof mascara is always the right choice, it won’t run underneath your eyes, and it makes your eyes pop.

Choosing eye shadows, lip tones, skin tones can seem daunting, but with proper education, or a personal consultation with a trained cosmetic artist will guide you in the right direction.

At Image Provocateur in Roseville you will find Cosmetic Artists, Fashion consultants, Hairstylists, nail technicians and skincare specialists that will guide you to a sexy new you, ready for the sunny days of summer and all seasons beyond.
