NARS Cosmetics - The Look of Summer 2010

The NARS Summer 2010 Campaign was created and photographed by NARS Founder and Creative Director François Nars. Once again, François turned to his dear friend Amber Valetta and transformed her, drawing inspiration from longtime muse Catherine Deneuve’s portrayal of Sèverine in the movie Belle de Jour.

Look created by: François Nars, Founder and Creative Director of NARS Cosmetics

Face:
Apply the NARS Makeup Primer, followed by NARS Fiji Sheer Matte Foundation.

For a fresh finish he set it with NARS Eden Loose Powder.
NARS Orgasm Illuminator was applied to her cheeks, forehead and center of the chin to give her skin a subtle radiance.

Then apply NARS Enchanted Cream Blush on the cheeks, followed with NARS Orgasm Blush blended toward the temples to further highlight the complexion.

Eyes:
Apply the iridescent ocean-blue shade of NARS Burn It Blue Duo Cream Eyeshadow to the eyelid, blending upwards toward the base of the brow bone.

Left side of NARS Pandora Duo Eyeshadow across the lid.
Brushed the rich teal shade of NARS Cleo Duo Eyeshadow into the crease.

Eyebrows were defined with NARS Blondie Single Eyeshadow, using the NARS Brow Brush.

He lined the eyes with NARS Mambo Eyeliner Pencil followed by NARS Nuits Blanches Eyeliner creating a full lash line. NARS Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara finished the look.

Lips:
NARS Angélique Pure Sheer SPF Lip Treatment and topped them off with NARS Love Devotion Lipstick

Our Makeup Must Haves

A good makeup artist is an equal opportunist when it comes to the kind of products they use in their kits.

They are by far the worst hoarders of makeup and are almost compulsive in purchasing everything new that hits the scene.  But this isn't just a selfish indulgence, this is research and possibly a learning curve that will bring them up to the next level in their skills.

Take a look inside any of the pro kits at Image ProvoCateur and you'll see what I mean.  You'll see an abundance of VIP-CAT Cosmetics, but you will also see a smattering of other brands as well, from MAC and NARS to Wet 'n Wild and CoverGirl.  Each of our artists are going to use the best tool for the job, no matter the name on the label.

Each item in our kit was chosen for it's performance.  We all have our personal favorites, brands and products, and it's how we know what is going to work best for all of our clients.

If there was one piece of makeup We couldn't live with out?:

Raquel Siders - Master Artist:  Revlon Colorstay Foundation.  With it you just need it, not foundation, concealer AND powder.  It's 3 in 1.

Arrvada - Makeup Artist:  Mascara!  My lashes are freakin' blond!  My personal favorite for myself and for my kit, Covergirl's LashBlast, waterproof.  And lately, NYX Black Eye Shadow.

Debye Martin - Hair Stylist & Makeup Artist:  MAC Blunt.  Love it!  Use is for everything!

Jen Haupt - Makeup Artist:  MAC Moonstone Lip gel.  My new love!

Heather Martin - Lead Stylist & Creative Director:  Eye primer by MAC.

Abby Siders - Makeup Artist:  MAC Black Eyeshadow

Dana Schleth - Photographer:  Mascara...The big yellow one!  Colossal by Maybelline.

Elya Preston - Hair Stylist:  Mascara!  Loreal Voluminous blackest black, waterproof

Jenny "Cakes" Garten - Hair Stylist & Makeup Artist:  Mascara, pink and green bottle.

Kayla Lawrence - Hair Stylist:  Palladio Liquid Liner and Palladio Face Powder

Angel Rotar - Makeup Artist & Modeling Instructor:  Revlon Color Stay Foundation

Arlene Culbreth - Hair Stylist:  Bare Essentials, warmth.  It's a bronzer.  Love it!

Liz Eason - Massage Therapist & Makeup Artist:  Lip gloss, I have a million brands!  And my mascara which is Loreal.

Krystle Sze - Makeup Artist - My fav makeup product is liquid foundation, and my favorite one is Teint Idole from Lancome.  I love it!

Top 10 Must Do's for Sultry Summer Beauty!

1. Use a sunscreen on your face.

2. Stay-proof your eye makeup. For long lasting shadow, don't use eye cream. Use a eye primer this helps keep the shadows from creasing. The primer helps the shadow to cling to so it lasts longer.

3. Drink 64 ounces of water daily.

4. Always clean your face daily. Cleanse tone and moisturize.

5. Clean your makeup brushes weekly. They carry bacteria as well as muddying up your finished look.

6. Stop shine add glow. Use blotting papers to get rid of that unsightly "I'm hot". If you need to perk up your makeup too, blot first, and then follow up with a dusting of pressed powder. This takes away that shine but leaves the summer glow.

7. Switch out thick lipsticks. Try using different color of gloss or tinted lip balm for that natural lip.

8. Use waterproof mascara.

9. Go sheer on the face. Switch to sheer versions of your go-to lip and eye hues.

10. Lighten up on your face makeup. Swap foundations for tinted moisturizer. These sheer formulas look and feel airier on skin and are less likely to turn cakey on steamy days.

Dana Schleth: Photographer, Artist

by Arrvada

"I've always been addicted to fact. In college, I thought this addiction would lead me to a career in Business finance or economics. Well, three associate degrees and an internship proved otherwise; I loathed the confines of a desk, a computer, and paper walls. So, less than a year from graduation I decided to take a well-deserved soul-searching road trip from LA to Florida.

"I started off driving 85 mph but a speeding ticket forced me to slow down and look, not just to look, but to really see. I realized there was an entire world around me. A world I had never seen, I was so small and it had so much to teach me. Fortunately, I packed the old canon camera my grandmother had given me and three lenses that I had hardly used before. I was a little less than half way when I realized I had become fused, with the old camera from my sock drawer. "

Within three months of returning from Florida, Dana was attending Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. She found her dream, her passion in a lens. She graduated with honors from Brooks in Southern California with a B.A. in Digital Imaging.

Last year Dana was recognized by the International Society of Photographers for some of her work. The image honored is now featured in an anthology titled Endless Journeys.

Dana is a truly talented artist, bringing her keen eye and love of beauty into any realm. From commerical to bridal from boudoir to high fashion she can capture the beauty life through the eye of her lens.

Image Provocateur is now Dana's home.

Hydration = Good Skin

by Arrvada

One of the main contributors to healthy winter skin is proper hydration. Not just in what goes onto the skin, but also what goes inside.

In some ways it seems it is easier to stay hydrated during the sweltering heat of summer than it is when things cool down to brrrr. In the summer nothing is better than a nice cold glass of water. but in the winter, it's just the opposite. We tend to order drinks that will warm us up from the inside, like hot tea, spiced cider, coffee and cocoa. It's true all of these feel great when the wind is rushing about at a furious pace and sending those leaves skittering down the street. But they tend to leave our bodies sorely lacking in hydration. Yep, big problem.

So what are we supposed to do? You ask.

Well, it's a scientific fact that the body absorbs water better when it is room temperature than when it is ice cold. However none of us are usually keen on the taste of lukewarm water. So that leaves us with a few options:

1. Carry a reusable water container since there is no need to clutter the landfills just to stay hydrated. Besides, this will save you money in the long run, since a bottle of water can run from $1 to $5.

2. Add a few drops of lemon juice to the water. This will make it much more palatable, even when it isn't ice cold and will also give you a nice little boost of Vitamin C. A vitamin we could really use more of during the cold and flu season.

3. Avoid Sodas and other drinks that are high in sugar. These only serve to dehydrate you more and add more junk and chemicals to your body that none of us really need.

4. Avoid Caffein. I know, I know. You are screaming, BLASPHEMY! at this point, but just bear with me a moment longer. Ok, caffeine tends to curb your appetite, which is good, but it also curbs your thirst impulses. So if we don't feel thirsty, why would we want to force ourselves to drink? So, if at all possible, avoid the caffeine.

So raise a glass of crystal clear water and make a toast to beautiful skin, YOUR beautiful skin.

Weddings....Dreams made Real

Weddings are hopeful. They are the day that we have gambled all our hopes and dreams on since childhood. As little girls we played dress up, envisioning the day we would be walking down the aisle to pledge our life to the man we love. We dreamt of weddings bells in the midst of our first crush, watched Cinderella one too many times and dreamed of one day finding our very own prince charming. Weddings are the day before Happily Ever After, and it is the day that leads us there. Weddings aren’t just about the confetti, about the I do’s, the cake, the venue, they are about the combination, the compilation of everything all together to make that one perfect moment for that one perfect day. We envision birds singing and the sun shining down on us with gentle heat while we are resplendent in a gown of snow white, a princess from a story book for that one moment. We envision joy, we envision our hearts bursting with love when we are finally able to say I do. All that is possible, the memories will be cherished, but there are so many plans to be made. Your venue, your gown, your photographer, your caterer…. So many things, its seems they rush upon you. And what of yourself, the bride? You are the center piece, this is your day. This day should be your joy, the day you’ve always wanted and you should look and feel the way you have always dreamed.
The trappings are all around you, you’ve thought of it all, now it’s your turn. You’ve found the gown that you’ve always wanted, a vision in white, you’ve found the veil, you’ve even found the shoes. You have a crowd of your loved ones around you, it is the day of your wedding. You’ve only a few hours left before you will make that inevitable walk down the aisle with your family pressed in on all sides. Have you remembered everything? We will. Image Provocateur will be there with you. We will add a shimmer, a blush to your lips and cheeks, contour and depth to your eyes, so that you will shine out from among the rest of the bridal party. The camera will only see you. You’re hair will be done, your veil placed. Our staff of highly trained and uniquely skilled makeup artists and hair designers will create the look you want and achieve it for you. We will come to your location on your wedding day and create a timeless look for you. You and your bridesmaids can sit back, relax and have fun on this wonderful day. We will worry about the timing and scheduling, so that you don’t have to. Watch yourself transform into your dream, this is your day and it will be perfect.
Let Image Provocateur’s On Location Professional Makeup Artists and Hair Specialists ease your mind. You have worried about everything else…Leave your makeup and hair to us.
